Data Artifacts

A person in profile wearing glasses, hand raised to their chin in a thoughtful pose, with complex data visualizations and AI diagrams overlaid on their silhouette.Steroid hormones are molecules made from cholesterol, typically in the ovaries, testes, and adrenal glands. They are incredibly important in the body, as they are involved in controlling metabolism and salt balance, in addition to reproductive development and function.

Data artifacts are flaws or distortions in data, resulting from things like how the data were collected or processed. They can cause issues in research if they aren’t identified during thorough data analysis because results can be misinterpreted based on the distorted patterns.

In ME/CFS research, data artifacts are likely to emerge during exploratory research, especially when using artificial intelligence and due to limitations in measurement methods. It’s important for study teams to evaluate whether results are influenced by data artifacts before drawing conclusions about the findings.

OMF’s Computational Research Center for Complex Diseases brings critical expertise in data analysis, including distinguishing data artifacts from true results, to our collaborative research. Read more about the computation team and their work here
